Things to know about "peels"
Contraindications:
Additionally there are contraindications to receiving a chemical exfoliation treatment. See below for the listing of contraindications that would prevent someone from being a candidate for a treatment.
• active facial rashes
• open or unidentified lesions
• serious illness
• deficient immune system
• pregnancy or lactating
• recent laser resurfacing or surgery
• accutane usage
• high blood pressure
• diabetes
• heart disease
• sunburn
• any type of dermatitis, including eczema, psoriasis and seborrhea
• A chemical exfoliation treatment cannot be performed on the same day as injectables or waxing.
• Salicylic acid cannot be used if you are allergic to aspirin.
• Chemical exfoliation treatments (primarily Glycolic, Salicylic, or Modified Jessner) should not be on your first appointment. It is important to analyze your skin prior to exfoliation and set up a home care program to prepare your skin. Your initial appointment should be regular facial.
• Absolutely no tanning prior to or after chemical exfoliation treatments.
If you have any viral lesions such as herpes simplex, you need to take medication before receiving a chemical exfoliation because it may cause a flare-up. Chemical exfoliation treatment cannot be performed on anyone with active herpes simplex.
